Okay, I’ll be the first to admit this is not the most photogenic dish we had for Father’s Day lunch today. But it was certainly the highlight of the meal. The “Chavacano” style prawns in crab fat with kangkong and spring onions at M Cafe in Greenbelt was fantastic. The prawns were firm and not overcooked, the sauce was rich and sinful, and the vegetables beneath the prawns had just the right amount of spicy to add a different dimension to the meal. It’s one of those dishes you cannot eat without rice. Definitely, a must-have and, I’d even dare say, a good reason to come back to M Cafe! #akonamayfoodblog (at M Café)
Had IHOP today and was underwhelmed by the overall experience. While the food was better than I expected (heard a lot of not-so-good stories about their food already), what I did not like were the ambience (extremely noisy and running kids included) and the service (the staff did not even know what it meant to have the toppings on the side). Having said that, I must commend the winning dish of the meal which was the scrambled eggs. I was pleasantly surprised by the creamy and cheesy eggs! Overall, a so so experience. Not bad but probably not worth the line. #akonamayfoodblog (at IHOP)
This long day ended with a Nasi Lemak from Ang Mo Kio Singaporean Restaurant. Satisfying enough but not much better than a regular fried chicken leg. Considering it was listed as one of their specialties, I was hoping it’d be a bit more special. Overall, at best a 3.5/5. Might’ve been just that particular dish though. I’d be willing to try their other dishes in the future but I definitely won’t be craving for this dish in the future. (at Ang Mo Kio Singaporean Hawker Cuisine)
Last night’s dessert. Rich and creamy Cookie Dough NY Cheesecake. Though it was not like the usual cheesecake I prefer, this one left me wanting more. I usually opt for a denser and slightly more baked texture. But this was just beautifully made so that the creaminess of the cheesecake itself contrasted just ever so slightly but still perceivably with the bite of each cookie. The sweet chocolatey taste of the cookies was distinct enough from the usual cheesecake so it would complement each other pretty well. It is this delicate and deliberate choice of combinations that made this Cheesecake worth the calories. I cannot wait to sink my fork into this again. (at Chelsea Market & Cafe)
